Made by controlled pyrolysis of woody prunings and trimmings from our own plantation. The result is a stable carbon structure that does not break down for decades.
Biochar works as a sponge in the root zone: it holds water and nutrients through dry spells and gives soil microbes somewhere to live. Charge it with compost or slurry before applying for best results.
It is also the most durable form of carbon sequestration available to a working farm.
Mix with compost at 1:3 and let it stand a week before applying. 400–800 kg per acre, incorporated into the top 150 mm.
